Amazon to enter the wearable market with Alexa-powered smart glasses

According to the report, the glasses will allow the user to connect to Amazon's digital assistant, Alexa, anytime, anywhere. They'd use bone conduction technology so that you can hear Alexa's responses without broadcasting them too loudly to the world.

That's why we have multiple Echo-branded devices to suit different areas of the home, why Alexa is on smartphones, is being integrated into wireless earphones, and why there's an Alexa Voice Service Device SDK for easy integration with other commercial products.

The project is apparently being led by Babak Parviz, a former Google X director who was instrumental to Google Glass. But are you ready to wear Alexa?

The newspaper says one or both of these products could be launched before the end of the year, alongside updates to existing Echo devices.

The company is said to be working on a set of smart glasses which seem a major step back from the current state of the art, only featuring a microphone and bone conduction speaker, and meant to connect to your phone and bring Alexa to your ear effortlessly.

Tech companies seem determined to make smart glasses work.

Similarly, there is "Try this next" that suggests movies, TV shows, and other items to buy from Amazon.

Amazon may be building an Echo device that you can wear on your face. The Amazon Echo now has a 76% share of the smart speaker market in the United States, according to research firm CIRP, with 15m units in consumer's homes.

Previous Amazon tablets required people to press and hold the home button to get Alexa's attention.

Amazon's priority in its device lineup, which also includes 7- and 8-inch tablets and the Kindle e-reader line, has been to keep the costs of the devices low.

Amazon has already seen success with its Echo speakers and it even prompted Google and Apple to come out with their own smart home speakers.

This is not the first time in recent days that Amazon's plans to make Alexa more mobile have been revealed.

Amazon wasn't immediately available to comment on the report.
