Ali's rapid ton too much for West Indies

Ali's rapid ton too much for West Indies

MOEEN Ali smashed the second fastest one-day global hundred of all time by an England batsman in an astonishing display of hitting in the third match of the series with the West Indies at Bristol.

Opening batsman Chris Gayle is fit again to play for the West Indies after injuring his hamstring in the warmup ahead of the second ODI.

This is also England's second fastest ODI hundred, after Jos Buttler's 46-ball ton against Pakistan in Dubai in November 2005.

But, with Ali leading the charge, England scored 123 runs in their last 10 overs after being sent into bat by West Indies captain Jason Holder. "But the ground wasn't the biggest and I felt like they bowled a little bit in the slot".

He eventually holed out off spinner Ashley Nurse and received a standing ovation from a near-capacity crowd.

Ali went to his century with two sixes in three balls off Miguel Cummins - a pull over deep square leg followed by a soaring drive over long-on.

Holder (34) struck some lusty blows and Jason Mohammed (38) got a start, but the impressive Plunkett and Rashid finished off the job under dark skies to put England 2-0 up.

Aaron Hernandez had 'severe' CTE, according to researchers at Boston University
Because CTE can not be diagnosed until after death, it was not known until Thursday whether or not Hernandez had CTE. Hernandez was released from the Patriots in 2013 after he was arrested for the killing of his friend Odin Lloyd .

"Moeen Ali s innings was the difference between the sides, certainly with the batting anyway", he said.

Hales went lbw on DRS when Cummins slanted one into him in his first over, however, and Eoin Morgan's wretched run continued when Holder found movement off the pitch too to have him caught-behind first ball.

England have already made their intentions clear about coming hard at West Indies. "The players need to take the ownership on themselves".

England's lineup is unchanged from the first two games.

Plunkett then had both Shai Hope (20) and Marlon Samuels (11) caught behind, the latter on a tight review.

Moeen hit eight sixes in the course of 14 balls, and moved from 50 to 100 off only 12 balls.

Opener Chris Gayle led the response, at one stage hitting Ali for three consecutive sixes, but he never quite had sufficient support and was run out for 94 going for a quick single.
