US Defense Secretary Mattis and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation chief Stoltenberg in Kabul

Terror attack in and around Kabul airport greeted USA defence secretary James Mattis as he arrived in the Afghan capital on Wednesday on an unannounced visit from Delhi and delayed Afghan CEO Abdullah Abdullah's trip to the Indian capital for mega Indo-Afghan Trade and Investment show.

Dozens of rockets were launched at the airport just hours after Mattis and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived, unannounced, to meet with US forces and Afghan officials.

The resurgent militants have promised to turn Afghanistan into a "graveyard" for foreign forces and have been mounting deadly attacks as they maintain control over large swathes of the country.

They provided no proof of their involvement, and neither has the Taliban, but it's a safe bet to assume - following a relevant speech that Mattis gave in India - that the Taliban's ownership of this attack is genuine.

This is Mattis' first trip to Afghanistan since President Donald Trump announced a new strategy for Afghanistan, recommitting to the country and declaring during a prime-time address back in August that us troops must "fight to win".

The President declared he would no longer announce troop levels but would focus on allowing USA forces to target the Taliban and other terrorist groups wherever they were in Afghanistan.

All of the victims were members of the same family, according to Najib Danish, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, who confirmed one of the rockets landed on a home near the airport.

Marouane Fellaini to miss Champions League trip to Moscow
The both teams have met four times and in that matches , Manchester United has won two matches and two matches ended in a draw. Europa League winners Manchester United will go up against CSKA Moscow at the VEB Arena , in Moscow .

"If in fact there was an attack ... his is a classic statement to what Taliban are up to", Mattis said.

"I want to reinforce to the Taliban that the only path to peace and political legitimacy for them is through a negotiated settlement", he said. Afghan special forces managed to repel the attackers, killing four in an ensuing gunbattle.

"The whole world should clearly remember it was the US who first declared war on our country", the global media quoted him as saying.

INDIA will not deploy troops in Afghanistan, its defence minister said on Tuesday (26), but promised to boost support for a new USA strategy in the war-torn country.

The high-level visit comes as Afghan security forces struggle to beat back the Taliban which has been on the offensive following the withdrawal of US-led North Atlantic Treaty Organisation combat troops at the end of 2014. Official military figures show the US dropped more weapons (503) on Afghanistan during August than in any other single month since 2012.

The secretary said he also looks forward to new U.S. -India naval exercises, and furthering the robust defense trade and technology collaboration between both nations' defense industries.

There were no reports of casualties or immediate claim of responsibility. The security forces launched a search operation for the attackers. The US troops will remain in the country for an indefinite period of time, he said, vowing "fast and powerful" retribution against terrorist organizations.
