Prime Minister Narendra Modi with president of the European Council Donald Tusk.

He also praised India for responding to the Rohingya refugee crisis.

Modi said that during the summit, the leaders have agreed to strengthen security cooperation and work together against terrorism.

In a statement, Tusk said "We adopted a joint declaration on counter-terrorism to deal effectively with the threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters, terror financing and arms supply".

However Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, in his remarks to reporters at the end of the summit level talks stressed that "free and fair trade agreements were not only economically important" for common citizens' prosperity, "they strengthen and defend the rules-based global order and our way of life".

However, he added, "Once the circumstances are right - and only once the circumstances are right - we will resume. Today's summit is an important step in the right direction", Juncker said.

India received around United States dollars 83 billion of foreign direct investment from Europe during 2000-17, constituting approximately 24 per cent of total FDI inflows into the country during the period.

Earlier in the day, Joint Statement 14th India-EU Summit pointed out that the ongoing efforts of both sides to re- engage actively towards timely relaunching negotiations for a comprehensive and mutually beneficial India-EU BTIA.
