Kenya: Wait for Nail-Biting Dash on Oct 26, Raila Tells Followers

The opposition is threatening to boycott the October 26 re-run if election board officials are not removed and if parliament passes a proposed amendment to the election law.

Odinga's exit from the poll is just the latest manifestation of a political crisis that has rocked the country since the Constitutional Court annulled incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory in August.

In its report entitled "Mirage at Dusk", the KNCHR said that the dead included a six 6-month-old baby, who was clobbered by armed security agents whilst under the care of its mother in Kisumu County in western Kenya. It was the first time a court had overturned the results of a presidential election in Africa, and the court ordered a new election, set for October 26.

Some of the deaths were caused by "police using live bullets" while others were killed by police "bludgeoning using clubs", Kenya National Commission on Human Rights said in a report on Monday.

NASA also alleged that the Jubilee has captured the IEBC using four commissioners, who are tasked to implement the party's agenda within the electoral body.

"I am now hearing that he has withdrawn from the presidential race after taking us in circles when Ksh12 billion has been allocated for preparations of the repeat election".

Circuit Court of Appeals, which set a deadline of Friday for a status report from the EPA on how it plans to proceed. Administrator Scott Pruitt, who has cast doubt on climate change, said the Clean Power Plan was an overreach.

A little more than two weeks before a re-run of a presidential election, Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga dropped a bombshell.

While some, in particular Kenyatta's supporters, endorsed the changes, those supporting opposition leader Raila Odinga accuse the amendments of being a rigging plot.

"There is no intention on the part of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to undertake any changes to its operations and personnel to ensure that the "illegalities and irregularities" that led to the invalidation of the August 8 polls do not happen again", Odinga added.

Odinga among other demands wants Al Ghurair, the firm that has been contracted to print the papers, to be dropped because it has connections to President Uhuru Kenyatta's family.

He was boycotting the polls because his demands for electoral reform were not met, Odinga said during a press conference in the capital, Nairobi.

Raila said the withdrawal from the election "is in the best interest of the country and a win-win for everyone".
