Md. coach abused 5 more victims after police investigation began

The investigation began after a student's parent contacted the sheriff's office about inappropriate sexual text messages Bell had sent to the student.

Bell is now accused of assaulting double the number of students listed in an earlier indictment from July.

The number of victims believed to have been abused by a track coach and school aide in Maryland has nearly doubled: A 206-count indictment made public this week accuses 30-year-old Carlos Deangelo Bell of abusing 42 boys between May 2015 and June 2017, Fox reports. The State's Attorney for Charles County says Bell is accused of abusing boys aged between 11 and 17 at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, his home, and other locations. The latest indictment shows charges for incidents on dates that fall after Bell was placed on administrative leave from Charles County schools and investigators had confiscated his cellphones in late December.

Of the 42 victims, officials said they have identified 28 juveniles, and 14 remain unidentified.

Bell was removed from his jobs at La Plata High School and his coaching job December 22 when authorities launched the investigation.

A search of Bell's work computer didn't reveal anything suspicious, but police said a search of Bell's home computer and electronic devices turned up child pornography, according to FOX5.

He is charged with attempted transfer of HIV to one of those five victims, however the child has tested negative for the virus, said State's Attorney Tony Covington.

Charles County Superintendent Kimberly Hill previously said in a statement, "In an organization that is all about our children, these allegations are horrifying". He began working for the school system in 2014.

Bell's trial date has been set for January 8, 2018.

The State Attorney's office said the charges against Bell include: 22 checks of sexual manhandle of a minor, 19 tallies of second-degree sex offense, 19 tallies of second-degree sex offenses, 7 tallies of third-degree sex offense, 97 checks of youngster smut and different offenses.
