Las Vegas gunman's brother arrested for child porn

The 58-year-old was detained while at a Los Angeles assisted-living facility, where he was awaiting surgery for spinal stenosis.

Josh Rubenstein, an LAPD spokesman, said Paddock's arrest was the result of an independent investigation by the LAPD and not related to the Vegas shooting carried out by his brother, Stephen.

Bruce Paddock was facing charges in relation to a probe that began before the shooting in Las Vegas.

Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of 22,000 concertgoers from his 32nd-floor holes window in the heart of Las Vegas on October 1. The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility, but authorities say they have not discovered any evidence to link the massacre to terrorism.

Software created to erase files from a hard drive was also purchased by Paddock, investigators have learned, but they have not been able to determine if that software was ever used without access to the hard drive.

Bergdahl sentencing hearing delayed

Investigators are struggling to identify a motive behind Paddock's attack, which killed 58 and injured almost 500 at a country music festival at the beginning of October.

Investigators digging into Paddock's background also learned he purchased software created to erase files from a hard drive, but without the hard drive to examine it is impossible to know if he ever used the software, one source said.

Authorities have reached out and spoken to Paddock's family and girlfriend.

According to the ABC report, Paddock also reportedly purchased software meant to erase his hard drive, but it's unclear if he used it.

Unlike other mass shooters, Paddock has not left many traces of evidence.
