'Mersal' Telugu release in trouble, no censor clearance yet!

The High Court while rejecting the petition of Tamil Nadu BJP president, Tamilisai Soundrajan said that everyone has the right to express their opinion.

However, the court took a dim view of Ashvathaman's contention and noted: "if the petitioner was really concerned about the public and society then he would have tackled issues such as untouchability and women's safety". In his PIL, he requested the censor certificate to be revoked so as to enable the said scenes and dialogues be removed. Instead the petitioner chose to go after a movie. It also added that a film, like Mersal, is after all "not real, but an imaginative story".

The person who had filed the PIL against the film also reportedly claimed that because of the protest, the film is garnering a lot of publicity.

"Even today the media has reported that the Leader of Opposition in the state has criticized demonetization, can the court pass a gag order against him from making such statements", the bench said.

The spot price for WTI is also trading up to its highest level in six months, up 2.07% on the day at $53.73 at 12:30pm EST. A weaker dollar makes greenback-denominated commodities, including oil, cheaper for holders of other currencies.

The music of actor Vijay's controversial Tamil film Mersal has broken the record of reaching 100 million streams across platforms within a span of 10 days, according to Sony Music India.

Censuring advocate A Ashvathaman who moved the PIL, a division bench of justices M M Sundresh and M Sundar said the dialogues in the film, allegedly against the GST and digital India schemes of the central government, were just an expression of the movie which can not be interfered with by the court.

"The process of approving a dubbed version of a film is the same as certifying a film for the first time". This is not done. After his film embroiled in a controversy over its dialogues, its Telugu version titled Adhirindhi, has been postponed.
