Roy's crossover to the BJP comes as a big blow to the TMC as he was once considered TMC chief Mamata Banerjee's man Friday.

While a section of the BJP led by Vijayvargiya wanted Roy to join the party, another section had expressed reservations, pointing out that the party had targeted Roy for his alleged involvement in the Saradha scam.

"I feel without BJP, TMC could not have established (itself) then", he said. "His experience will benefit us surely I believe".
