Nicki Minaj's brother convicted of raping stepdaughter in Long Island

Jelani Maraj is facing a maximum of life behind bars if he is convicted on a felony second-degree charge of sexual conduct, while he is also fighting a misdemeanour count of acting in a manner likely to injure a child. He was convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. Maraj, 38, sat in court stoned face as the verdict was read out. Sentencing is to take place December 14.

Nicki has not commented on the charges against her brother.

Maraj was first arrested in connection with the case in December 2015.

#JelaniMaraj was found guilty for repeatedly raping his 11-year-old former stepdaughter while her mother was at work.

Maraj's defence team claimed that the DNA was planted by the girl's mother, the defendant's wife, who was using the abuse allegations to try and extort millions from her husband.

This photo provided by the Nassau County Police Department shows Jelani Maraj, 37, on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, in Mineola, N.Y.

Sensex closes high on GST meet outcome hopes
Public sector lender Oriental Bank of Commerce ended lower by 5.94 per cent following deteriorating asset quality metrics. Gains were led by banking, energy, pharma and metal stocks - up between 0.70 per cent and 0.95 per cent in morning deals.

Maraj's famous sister Nicki was not in court for the trial and she was not called as a witness to corroborate the blackmail plot, as had previously been suggested.

"We hope that today's verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this bad chapter in their lives", District Attorney Madeline Singas said, with prosecutors recovering DNA evidence from the girl's pyjama trousers linking the crime to Maraj. He was handcuffed and taken into custody following the verdict and now potentially faces 25 years to life in prison.

She told jurors that he had previously treated her like a daughter but told her that the abuse was her fault and that she "wanted it to happen".

His lawyers countered that the girl's mother beat her into complying with the fraudulent criminal claims, as part of an attempted shakedown of Maraj's superstar singer, says Brosh. "The amount of evidence we have that wasn't allowed in this case is unbelievable".

A scientist stated that a stain on a pair of the pajamas belonging to the young girl was a 1 in 291 billion matches to Maraj. Civil attorney James R. Ray III briefly represented the mother and testified that he did demand $25 million from Maraj after he was arrested.
