Missouri's attorney general says his office will investigate Google for potential violations of the state's antitrust and consumer-protection laws.

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley launches an antitrust investigation into Google (GOOGL, GOOG), accusing the company of violating the state's consumer protection laws.

Federal regulators in the US have also investigated Google over antitrust claims.

Claire McCaskill's seat in 2018, told reporters that he issued an "investigative subpoena" to the tech giant to gather information.

AT&T may choose to force the DOJ's hand by moving to close the deal, which could trigger a court fight. It's why we did the deal", he said. "I didn't make that decision", Trump told reporters.

Hawley said it's important to find out how Google handles sensitive information - especially after large companies like Equifax recently suffered massive data breaches. Hawley said that his preliminary investigation suggests that Google may not be accurately disclosing how much data it collects about customers and that people don't have a meaningful choice to opt out of Google's data collection. He says "substantial evidence" suggests the company might manipulate search results to list Google-affiliated websites higher in search results.

The European Union in June issued a $2.7 billion (2.4 billion euro) antitrust fine, which Google has appealed, for unfairly highlighting its own shopping service in search results.

"This misappropriation hurts business and it threatens to drive Google's competitors out of the market, which in turn deprives consumers of innovation and valuable services", he says.

The company operates "in a highly competitive and dynamic environment", Patrick Lenihan said in an emailed statement. In July, the Electronic Privacy Information Center filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission regarding a Google program that tracks consumer behavior.
