I've progressed over a few days, hitting driver a little hard and harder and harder until it was comfortable enough to hit it full.

"I was very impressed about him going out and being able to hit the golf shots he wanted, including being able to use his drive to draw and fade the ball". Being in a great mental place may be an even better sign for Woods since golf is an extremely mental sport and he has gone through so many distractions recently.

"It's nice to compare my game to some of the other guys, like Dustin or Rickie or Rory [McIlroy]", Woods diplomatically noted about guys who have actually been playing in tourneys while he was on the DL.

"Though the last there was the first one he embarrassed me on but then I did not expect him to come back if he could not give 100 per cent and unless his golf game was ready".

Woods, 41, has not played in 10 months because of a fourth back operation and after the aborted return at the start of this campaign Thursday will be just his eighth competitive round in 27 months. That's the biggest thing for me.

Reed, who last fortnight had led the opening round of the European Tour season-ending DP World Tour Championship, is just pleased to see Woods again competing.
