Bryan Singer fired as director of Queen biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

'This was a very taxing experience which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health.

Director Bryan Singer was sacked from the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, the Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday, December 4.

Since the idea of Bohemian Rhapsody was first floated back in 2010, numerous big names have been associated with the production of the film. The "growing tension" also led to an altercation between the two, T.H.R. reports; in one confrontation, Singer threw something at Malek. However, the future of the project is now up for debate as news comes through that Singer has been fired from production.

News of trouble started brewing on Friday, when it was reported that production was suspended due to Singer's "unexpected availability".

"Hours after the announcement that he had been terminated, the 52-year-old, through his lawyer, responded, "'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a passion project of mine. "Bryan Singer is no longer the director of 'Bohemian Rhapsody, '" the studio said.

After Singer's departure from the film was announced on Monday, The Hollywood Reporter claimed the filmmaker was sacked over alleged issues with Rami Malek, who is portraying Mercury in the biopic.

With just over two weeks of principal photography left to wrap up the film, Fox may tap an insider to complete it rather than seek an outside director. Singer had reportedly failed to show up on set a couple of times, and was absent and remained in the United States following a Thanksgiving break.

Rami Malek is starring as the legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in the movie that had been filming in London. Tom Hollander had also briefly quit the film, however he was later convinced to return. Following his no show the studio chose to end his contract. His no-shows resulted in cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel having to step in to helm some of the days while Singer was missing. Now, 20th Century Fox have confirmed that he is no longer directing the film.

Bohemian Rhapsody is scheduled to debut on December 25, 2018.

Singer, who is 52, has directed films including "The Usual Suspects", four X-Men movies including last year's "X-Men: Apocalypse", "Jack the Giant Slayer", and "Superman Returns".
