Democrat plans to force impeachment vote against Trump this week

"Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment", the Democratic leaders charged.

Green argued that Trump has committed a high misdeed and is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office.

According to CNBC, Green said Trump is "unmindful of the high duties of his high office and the dignity and properties thereof".

Rep. Al Green (R-Tex.) came to the House floor at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday to offer articles of impeachment under special House rules requiring a floor vote; he returned to the floor at 1:34 to force that vote.

House Democratic leaders aren't in favor of pushing impeachment at this point as they seek to win back the majority next year.

Pelosi and Hoyer say Congress faces a vast set of urgent overdue priorities and that Democrats are focused on "protecting American families" in the coming tax debate and vote. Green, Texas Democrat, after Democratic leaders said Mr. Trump's actions may be upsetting to the party, but that talk of impeachment was premature. Although his speech is not criminal, it divides and damages the country, Green wrote in a letter to his colleagues, according to CNN.

The articles claim Trump brought shame and dishonor to the office of the president by being associated "with causes rooted in white supremacy, bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism, white nationalism, or neo-Nazism".

Pelosi and Hoyer said in a statement that while legitimate questions exist about Trump's fitness to lead, now is not the time for impeachment. It does detail Trump's dalliances with the far right - including his failure to quickly denounce the white-nationalist marchers in Charlottesville - and his recent tweeting of anti-Muslim videos circulated by a British extremist group, as well as public acts and statements denigrating various groups and individuals. Instead, he argues that Trump has "brought disrepute, contempt, ridicule and disgrace on the presidency" and "sown discord among the people of the United States".

Green first unveiled a draft of his articles of impeachment in October, but refrained from demanding a vote on it.
