Super Mario Galaxy And Other Wii Games Getting HD Releases...In China

Earlier today it's been confirmed that a selection of Nintendo Wii and GameCube games will be released on NVIDIA Shield in China. Twilight Princess, and Punch-Out! for the Nvidia Shield microconsole in China. This is not the first crossover between Nvidia and Nintendo, where Nvidia's Tegra actually powers the somewhat recently launched Nintendo Switch, one of their more successful consoles in recent years. "It will run popular PC games as well as Nintendo Wii games such as Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Punch out", read a tweet from Ahmad. All three are remastered in 1080p and only available through the China version of the Shield.

"The deal allows Nintendo to test its older content on the Chinese consumer and to accrue useful data on usage of those games". All of these games have been remastered in 1080p, meaning they should look a lot better on modern TVs than they did back on the Wii, and they sell for 68 yuan - about $10.

What's notable about this launch, though, is the inclusion of ported Nintendo games on the Shield.

Nvidia officially announced that the Shield TV in China will run New Super Mario Bros.

Until now, the majority of Nintendo games haven't been legally available in China, limiting the popularity of Super Mario and Donkey Kong, which are household names in the U.S., Europe and Japan. New Super Mario Bros.

This isn't the first time Nintendo games have made it onto non-Nintendo hardware-or even the first time Nintendo has released games in China since the ban. It's more than likely that Nintendo's partnership with Nvidia is a way for the console manufacturer to crack a notoriously hard market for consoles. It has been created to work with Baidu's DuerOS conversational artificial intelligence (AI) system and entertainment options from IQIYI. However, this isn't the only partnership Nintendo secured for China.
