The state ranks eighth among the 50 states and D.C. for total residents added between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017 - 77,049 - and ninth for rate of growth - about 1.4 percent.

IL and West Virginia were the top two states whose population in numbers saw a decline, but Wyoming had the largest dip in population by 1 percent. Wyoming has around 579,000 individuals while the Land of Lincoln has more than 6.6 million.
