Pakistan violated Ceasefire along LoC, Army Major, 3 Soldiers Killed

Four Indian Army soldiers, including a Major, were killed on Saturday in a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

"One major, three soldiers got killed in cross border firing by Pakistan troops in Bhimber Gali area of Keri sector on Saturday afternoon at around 1215 hours", official spokesperson here said.

A defence spokesperson blamed unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops for the deaths of Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas (32), Lance Naik Gurmail Singh (34) and Sepoy Pargat Singh (30).

Almost 30 people, including 14 Army personnel, 12 civilians, and four BSF personnel were killed in these ceasefire violations this year.

Vowing to avenge the killings, the Indian troops swung into action to silence the Pakistani guns.

Director general of military operations Lt Gen A K Bhatt had also told his Pakistani counterpart, Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, last month that there appeared to be a "disconnect" between his army headquarters at Rawalpindi, which professes a desire for peace, and its troops on the ground along the LoC, who resort to heavy firing and ceasefire violations without any provocation.

Asked whether any damage was caused to the Pakistani side in the retaliatory firing by army, Joshi said, "We don't know the damage caused to the other side".

"Indian Army has retaliated strongly and effectively on Pakistan Army posts".

"The martyrdom of Indian soldiers will not go in vain", the defence spokesman said. "Two other personnel also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment", the spokesman said.

Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan claim the divided Kashmir region in its entirety and have fought two wars over it.

He said the chief minister had conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain soldiers.

Deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh, while paying tributes to the slain officer and jawans, said, "The sacrifices rendered by the martyrs would be remembered forever". Officials said that the latest incident of ceasefire violation took place at a time when the Chief Minister Mahbuba Mufti is in Rajouri district with the intention of removing the complaints of the people.
