Donald Trump savages Vanity Fair for saying sorry to Hillary Clinton

Donald Trump savages Vanity Fair for saying sorry to Hillary Clinton

The video was compiled by Vanity Fair's politics and business vertical The Hive.

Now, the president of the United States has made use of Twitter's 280-character limit to tweet his own critique of the publication - for not being harsh enough on his former political opponent.

President Trump accused Vanity Fair Thursday of "bending over backwards" to apologize for a viral video that angered Hillary Clinton supporters. "Anna Wintour, who was all set to be Amb to Court of St James's & a big fundraiser for [Crooked Hillary], is beside herself in grief & begging for forgiveness!"

It suggested the defeated Democrat presidential candidate should "take up a new hobby in 2018" and showed various Vanity Fair editors drinking champagne while offering up ideas.

Wintour is the editor of Vogue, not Vanity Fair, but she is artistic director of Conde Nast, the magazine chain that publishes both titles, and supported Clinton in the 2016 election.

"Take up a new hobby", one staffer offered.

Or as one person in the video suggested, "literally anything that'll keep [her] from running again".

SoftBank's Tender Bid For Uber Massively Successful
On Thursday it said that existing investors had agreed to sell enough shares for SoftBank to go through with the transaction. Last month, SoftBank revealed that Benchmark Capital and Menlo Ventures have agreed to sell equity as part of the deal.

The publication has since issued an apology, but has not removed the video.

While the majority of the replies to the video decried it as sexist and mean-spirited, some attributed it to Vanity Fair's attempt to be "edgy," or amusing - albeit, even those Twitter users said the jokes mostly fell flat.

By Wednesday night, a Vanity Fair spokesperson had put out a statement saying the video was "an attempt at humor and we regret that it missed the mark".

Trump has a long-standing feud with Vanity Fair's former editor, Graydon Carter, who announced in September that he would step down by year's end.

"It's time to start working on your sequel to your book 'What Happened: What the Hell Happened?'" the Vanity Fair editor jeered. Carter has been a critic of Trump's for many years, calling him a "short-fingered vulgarian" in the 1980s.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who himself lost an election to President Barack Obama in 2008, told Esquire in November that it was time for Clinton "to move on" from 2016.
