Civil rights activist Erica Garner has passed away

Family members tell the Daily News that 27-year-old Erica Garner went into cardiac arrest Saturday night.

Garner had been placed in a medically induced coma last week after an asthma episode precipitated a major heart attack.

Snipes-Garner says her daughter suffered her first heart attack not long after giving birth to a baby boy in August.

Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, who was killed in a chokehold by a New York Police Department officer in 2014, died Saturday after a heart attack.

The NYPD tried to arrest Eric Garner, 43, for allegedly peddling loose cigarettes. His last words were "I can't breathe", which became a slogan for activists.

Ms Garner's official Twitter account, run by her family and friends since she became ill, asked that she be remembered as a mother, daughter, sister and aunt with a heart "bigger than the world".

"It's just sad to see her laying there and not the active Erica that we know", Sharpton added.

Oil near 2015 highs on strong China data
Inventories are now down by nearly 20% from their historic highs last March and well below this time previous year or in 2015. In the most recent week, United States production dipped modestly to 9.75 million bpd from 9.79 mln bpd the previous week.

Garner became a civil rights activist after video of her father's chokehold death at the hands of a NY police officer went viral and his final words "I can't breathe" became a rallying cry for police reform activists.

Garner became an activist and spoke out against police brutality after her father's death was caught on cell phone video in 2014.

Garner was hospitalized in critical condition earlier this month after suffering a heart attack. Mr Garner also had asthma, and was filmed telling officers multiple times: "I can't breathe".

A medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. "No one gave her justice".

De Blasio called Garner's death a "horrible tragedy" in a tweet. A grand jury declined to indict the officer involved, although the city of NY reached a $5.9 million settlement with the Garner family in 2015 for a wrongful-death lawsuit. She was particularly critical of de Blasio, noting that he defended the NYPD's decision not to release Pantaleo's disciplinary records after her father's death. "She left on her own terms".

She gained national prominence after speaking out in the wake of her father's death and met former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2016. In a series of tweets after the meeting, Erica Garner again stressed that she wanted to see progress on the investigation.
