Bombogenesis, or a storm bombing out, means the surface pressure of the storm will drop 24 millibars in 24 hours, or at the rate of 1 millibar per hour. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, it "occurs when a midlatitude cyclone rapidly intensifies", or quickly drops in atmospheric pressure, marking the strengthening of the storm.
"This winter storm typically brings damaging wind conditions from 50-70 miles per hour along with blizzard-like precipitation", Bart said.
