Pirates Trade Pitcher Gerrit Cole To Houston Astros

Pirates Trade Pitcher Gerrit Cole To Houston Astros

Cole has not yet been informed of a deal, according to a person close to him. Morosi added Cole's salary arbitration has yet to be resolved with a filing deadline of Friday, and that the Astros wanted to finalize a trade so "they can file at their number" rather than take on the Pirates' salary number.

Gerrit Cole is not a member of the Houston Astros, at least not yet, after reports of the pitcher being traded were refuted or walked back.

"We have talked to several teams about possible trades", Luhnow told the Houston Chronicle.

NY also has been linked in media reports to free agents Yu Darvish and Alex Cobb.

Cole made his debut in the major leagues with the Pirates in 2013.

The Houthi rebels, who are believed to be backed by Iran , stormed Yemen's capital Sanaa in September 2014. The airstrikes have killed thousands of civilians and wiped out entire neighborhoods, including hospitals.

Cole went 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 196/55 in 203 innings across 33 starts for the Pirates in 2017.

Cole will join the top of the rotation with Justin Verlander and Dallas Keuchel, along with Lance McCullers Jr., Charlie Morton and Brad Peacock as options.

The Pirates drafted Cole in 2011, using their first overall selection to do so. He is only two seasons removed from a 19-8, 2.60 campaign in 2015, and he's still just 27, so he's an excellent bounceback candidate for 2018.

Right now the Yankees have Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, CC Sabathia and Jordan Montgomery in their rotation.
