Wistful Mark Zuckerberg Wants To Bring Back The Old Facebook

Tweaking users' feeds may cause the social media platform to lose some of its luster for content producers or media companies, especially video makers that can not make money on Facebook regardless of how many of their videos go viral, said Cho Sodam, founder of Dotface, a youth-oriented media startup based in Seoul, South Korea. He declared that he is changing the goal he gives from focusing on helping users find relevant content to helping them have more meaningful social interactions.

Zuckerberg wrote on a post on Thursday that the company has received feedback that public content from businesses, brands, and media have crowded people's social media feed and have left little space for personal posts where people usually interact with others.

Zuckerberg goes on to write, "By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down".

"But none of that matters if our services are used in a way that doesn't bring people closer together", said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on their November earnings call. Zuckerberg's vision for Facebook has always been a platform for giving people a voice and a place to make meaningful connections, though he spent much of past year on the defensive.

"Pages making posts that people generally don't react to or comment on could see the biggest decreases in distribution".

"We've told our clients we anticipate a dip", said Casey Whittington at communications firm The Whittington Group, "but we are going to work really hard to make sure that's a very temporary step". Until now, Facebook has tuned the News Feed to favor video in the feed over other types of content.

Facebook's decision to refocus its news feed to show more posts from friendsand fewer posts from brands and publishers is a seismic shift with the potential to strike a major blow to publishers and businesses.

There have also been complaints that the news feed - a stream of messages, photographs and videos - increasingly features posts from companies rather than friends. For users who rely on Facebook for news, even if they don't comment or share brand- and media-created content, it will come as unwelcome news.

Korea will not scrap or renegotiate 'comfort women' deal of 2015
The Japanese government denies it is directly responsible, insisting that "comfort women" were recruited by civilians. However, she said the pact "cannot be a true solution for the victims of Japan's wartime sex slavery".

After Mark Zuckerberg fixes Facebook, the media industry may need some repairs.

So what does this mean for what you'll see when you scroll through your news feed in the future?

"With this update, we will also prioritize posts that spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people".

The trend away from business posts is not new, he said.

According to some analysts, the measure won't drag Facebook down due to its strong monetization, formed by a monthly active user (MAU) base of more than 2 billion.

He quoted an academic research pointing out that interactions with the loved ones are more healthy and important for a person's wellbeing, instead of just reading news articles or watching shared videos. The social network has been followed for important and local news by people around the globe.

This initiative would result in causing people to spend much less time on the social networking giant. And if we do the right thing, I believe that will be good for our community and our business over the long term too.

"I am personally quite unhappy with the fact that Facebook decides for its users what is relevant to them and what not", Ms Hoffman said.
