Billionaire couple's mysterious deaths being treated as murder

Billionaire couple's mysterious deaths being treated as murder

The billionaire philanthropist couple found murdered last month in their mansion outside Toronto were both homicide victims, police are now saying.

Police came to the conclusion after thousands of hours of investigation and painstakingly collecting and analysing hundreds of pieces of evidence from the billionaire couple's mansion in northern Toronto and their condo in Florida, police spokeswoman Susan Gomes said.

The Shermans were found semi-seated, wearing clothing and hanging with men's belts from a rail by their indoor pool, Gomes said.

However, it was initially unclear whether the couple died by double-suicide, homicide-suicide, or double-homicide, leading police to classify the deaths as "suspicious".

The Sherman family's own investigative team believes it was actually the work of multiple killers, sources tell the news outlet.

Police said they were treating the case as a double homicide after a six-week investigation, but they declined to discuss possible suspects or motives.

"I believe that they were targeted", said Det.

"This conclusion was expressed by the family from the outset and is consistent with the findings of the independent autopsy and investigation", says a statement from the family.

Smith, founder of influential post-punk band The Fall, dies at 60
After the heartbreaking news , Pam and Mark's family ask for respect for their privacy during this challenging time. His final album with the group was last year's New Facts Emerge , which was The Fall's 32nd studio album.

At the Sherman home on Old Colony Road in North York on Friday morning, yellow police tape remained stretched across the property, and a police seal covered the front double doors.

Gomes refused to say if anything was taken from the house or reports that marks were found on their wrists.

"Legal complexities in some executions have been challenging, given the litigious nature of Barry Sherman's businesses, in particular the search and seizure of electronics in Barry Sherman's workspace at Apotex".

"The only presented options being double suicide, homicide-suicide or double homicide", said Gomes.

"The branded drug companies hate us".

Sherman, who had a PhD in astrophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was chairman of the closely held Toronto-based generic drugmaker and was ranked by Forbes as Canada's 12th-richest person with a net worth of about US$3 billion (NZ$4b). They had recently listed their home in Toronto for 6.9 million Canadian dollars and they were building a new home in the city.

During the eulogy, Barry and Honey's son, Jonathon Sherman alluded to the targeted event: "When someone tries to snuff you out, or eliminate important parts of your family, we rally together and emerge stronger than ever". "Perhaps I'm surprised that hasn't happened".
