Cardinals' compensatory picks worth more than any other team's haul

Cardinals' compensatory picks worth more than any other team's haul

The Indianapolis Colts may have torn down the roster in the 2017 offseason and allowed several players to walk in free agency but they still won't be awarded any compensatory picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Compensatory picks are awarded based on the players that a team lost and gained in the previous offseason.

The Packers earned a fourth-round pick, two fifth-round picks, and one sixth-round pick in addition to the picks they already own in each round.

The NFL officially announced compensatory picks on Friday, and the Giants get the extra fourth-rounder because defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins signed with the Indianapolis Colts during free agency past year. Dallas' and Green Bay's four selections each are equal to the 69th overall pick, which is in the third round.

The New England Patriots can add another draft pick to their arsenal this spring. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Both picks are in the sixth round.

The Baltimore Ravens, who lead the National Football League with 49 compensatory picks received since 1994, garnered just one pick, a sixth-rounder.

Compensatory picks are slotted between the third and seventh rounds. Teams that lose high-end free agents and are unable to replace them with equal or greater talent are compensated with additional picks in rounds three through seven of the following draft.

With three selections, they did not get the most picks.
