Several of BB&T's banking services unavailable due to technical issue

- BB&T Bank restored ATM and automated phone services after a "technical issue" Thursday evening knocked them out.

An outage map showed areas like Virginia, central Florida, northern Ohio, Maryland, north Georgia and Pennsyvlania being affected on Friday.

BB&T said if you have experienced any issues or incurred fees because of this outage, representatives will help to address those issues once the services come back online.

According to company officials, the outage was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of their data centers.

- If you bank with BB&T, you may not be able to access your account.

At this time, many of our banking services are still unavailable but you can use your debit, credit & prepaid cards. We hear your frustration, and we are committed to making this right.

Company officials say they have no reason to believe the outage is a result of a cyber security breach. "Shame on you", one customer wrote on BB&T's Twitter page. The bank said balances and transactions will become current later in the day.

The bank operates more than 2,100 branches spread across 15 states as well as Washington, D.C. It's now ranked as the 15th largest bank in the United States with assets of at least $220 billion (£157.5 billion) as of September 2017.
