Google Lens rolls out to all Android users with Photos

This one is codenamed "P", and your guess is as good as ours as to what dessert-themed name the final version of the software will receive.

By the cease of the current year, the Nexus range of devices would formally end along with the Google Android tablets.

Although, undoubtedly, the most interesting feature has to do with the characteristic notch on the screen of the iPhone X, the well-known notch, which has reached a large number of Android terminals, as we could see in the MWC 2018.

Earlier this week, we mentioned that Google was expected to launch the first Android 9.0 Developer Preview build in about two weeks.

The preview also includes an updated SDK with system images for testing on the Android Emulator, Pixel, Pixel XL Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices.

- The Android P will improve privacy of users, says Google, as it restricts apps from accessing sensors all the time. It can even enable a "fused camera stream" that auto-switches between two or more cameras. Both Samsung (with Bixby Vision) and LG (with QLens) are well on their way to developing similar solutions.

It goes without saying that the Android P would be a big update with major visual changes. It also brings indoor positioning via Wi-Fi RTT which is also known as 802.11mc. While buying a phone from Google lets you sidestep Android's fragmented update mess, Google still can't compete with Apple's end-to-end control.

It's important to keep in mind, however, that Android P is in beta, and that a lot of things will break or be broken. This initial release is for developers only and not intended for daily or consumer use, so we're making it available by manual download and flash only. The dropped Android P support for the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, which are old phones, is hardly an issue.
