Amazon brings Alexa calls and messaging to tablets

While this is all good news for the Alexa app, there are a couple drawbacks and limitations we need to tell you about.

As mentioned, the only item needed on a capable tablet to make calls or send messages to Echo devices is the Alexa app.

According to the website Amazon Echo technology is at the heart of the product, meaning that like an Echo it will be able to control any smart home products around the house.

The attack triggered a deadly skirmish between fighters from the militant movement and security forces. He said three other security forces are missing and more than 30 insurgents were killed in the battle.

This new tablet functionality is best integrated with Amazon's Fire HD 10, which allows truly hands-free access to make free voice (and video) calls, along with the ability to send messages.

With the new update, users, who wish to ask queries to Alexa, can now do so without having to call out to Alexa each time, TechCrunch reported.

This means that users no longer require an Echo speaker to take advantage of this feature. You then have to verify your phone number and import your contacts. This means that the regular Echo speaker could not make these video calls but the Echo Spot would be able to make video calls. This effectively turns the tablet into an intercom to use for in-home communication. The feat is limited to the US, Mexico or Canada for now. On other devices you will have to go to the Alexa app and do it manually. This feature was also previously available mostly between Echo devices, rather than by using other technology items that weren't designed by Amazon. Provided you're on a pre-approved list of contacts that is.
