Siri Bug on iOS 11 will Read out Your Hidden Messages

We confirmed Siri was able to read out loud hidden messages from third-party messaging apps Signal and WhatsApp on an iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus running the latest version of iOS (11.2.6).

A Brazilian Mac magazine - it's called MacMagazine - claims to have uncovered a security hole in iOS 11. They further assured that the same will be fixed in the upcoming software update. All someone needs to do is ask Siri to read a message and the virtual personal assistant will respond by reading it in the robotic voice you've come to know, according to the report, which was earlier discovered by 9to5Mac.

Siri's behaviour becomes a privacy issue because it can read out messages and emails from third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Gmail, even if an iPhone is locked.

Users can disable Siri when iPhone is locked.

As of iOS 11, you can set message notifications to be hidden on your Lock screen - you can see that a message has arrived, but its content is hidden.

Fortnite Already Made Millions of Dollars on the iOS Marketplace
The Android version of the game won't be coming this month and probably won't arrive for quite some time on the Google Play Store. Since the beginning of the match, the circle is already formed, and the shrinking countdown begins as soon as you hit the ground.

Setting Show Previews When Unlocked is another convenience that seems uncontroversial - sure, you'll see private information that's specific to an app without switching to the app itself, but only when your phone's unlocked. This is a serious bug since it effectively removes a layer of security. Until a fix has been released, we suppose users who are anxious about this can maybe try disabling Siri.

We're not sure when exactly the fix will arrive, but it's possible that it might come in iOS 11.3, which is now in beta, or even possibly in iOS 11.2.7 if Apple were to release a minor update.

Go to Settings → Touch ID & Passcode → ALLOW ACCESS WHEN LOCKED. But the bug doesn't affect stock apps like Mail and iMessage. Apparently, this setting correctly stops Siri from reading out messages at the lockscreen.

If you ask Siri to read text notifications, she'll tell you to unlock your phone.

Under the "When Unlocked" setting, you can choose from "Always" and 'Never'.
