Pochettino leaves door open for Kane return against Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino trusts Tottenham's players to prepare properly for their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday, despite the temptation of watching the heavyweight bout between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker.

Kane was expected to return to first-team training early April, with a view to being reintroduced on the pitch against Manchester City on 14 April 14, though Pochettino seems to have suggested the England worldwide could be featuring much earlier.

"We need to assess him", Pochettino said.

"It's hard now to say yes or no". I can not give opinions about a context that I wasn't there [for]. If not this weekend, maybe next weekend. "After Bournemouth, everyone thought it would be a long period out".

"He is doing well and improving every day", Pochettino told a news conference.

We are so positive about his recovery.

Kane picked up the ankle injury in Spurs win over Bournemouth just before the worldwide break.

Both players were involved in global duty this week, and will be checked on before the crucial matchup.

In terms of Chelsea, Antonio Conte has said that he will check on the fitness of Thibaut Courtois and Andreas Christensen before the game on Sunday.

Tottenham went on to defeat Bournemouth 4-1 and have played just one other game since Kane was sidelined on March 11.

The England striker has scored 31 goals in all competitions this season, with eight league matches remaining for Spurs.

"But, at the same time, Tottenham are an important team for the whole team".

Kane is now second on 24 goals, four behind Egypt and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, in the Premier League top scorers chart. "It will be a massive game for both teams".

"I think it's hard now to say yes or no, to be involved or not in the game".

"Of course, there are still a lot of games to play". This is not a decisive game, but always it is important for your confidence, your motivation.

The Argentinian also suggested that Tottenham's rivalry with Chelsea is on a par with the enmity they share with north London neighbours Arsenal.

"For us today he was very good, he was fresh, he was fit and I am happy with the way he showed his fitness", Poch added.
