Cicilline: Trump firing of Mueller would 'obstruct justice'

President Donald Trump on Monday addressed the possibility of firing special counsel Robert Mueller, once again railing on the ongoing investigation into Russian collusion during the 2016 presidential election.

On Monday, investigators working for the USA attorney's office at the Southern District of NY raided Cohen's offices in NY after obtaining a search warrant, and seized records on various topics, such as the $130,000 nondisclosure payment Cohen made the adult-film actress, Stormy Daniels, shortly before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

'Mueller, a Republican, has uncovered a deep & detailed pattern of Russian interference in our elections that led to indictments & guilty pleas.

The move ignited the president's anger, with Trump calling it a "disgrace" that federal agents "broke into" the office of his personal lawyer.

Hours after the raid, Trump raged: 'They raid an office of a personal attorney early in the morning and I think it's a disgrace'.

Trump also called Cohen a "good man" and labeled the special counsel Robert Mueller's team as "the most conflicted group of people I have ever seen".

Daniels claims the money was given to her in order to keep her affair with Trump, which happened while he was married to Melania, a secret.

The payment, which was the largest donation to the charity in 2015 aside from donations from Trump, was discovered when investigators subpoenaed the Trump Organization for information related to foreign business deals, according to The New York Times.

Trump also called the probe by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into 2016 election meddling "an attack on our country".

Investigators from the United States attorney's office at the Southern District of NY reportedly raided Cohen's offices after receiving a tip from the special counsel Robert Mueller's team.

President Donald Trump slammed the FBI's raid on the offices of his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Mueller reports to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. "He certainly should have let us know if he was going to recuse himself, and we would have put a different attorney general in", the president said.

"The attorney general made a bad mistake when he did this and when recused himself or he certainly should have let us know if he was going to recuse himself and we would have put a different attorney general", Trump said Monday night.

Word of the Cohen raid came as the White House suffers from decreased morale amid a period of staff turnover and policy unpredictability.

"We are a nation of laws", said Cicilline, in a news release. So how did the pro-Trump conservative commentator react to this bombshell?

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY released a statement warning Trump against firing Mueller.

The Democrat Senate leader tweeted that Mueller's investigation is "vital to the health of our democracy" and "must be allowed to continue". If the President attempts to fire Special Counsel Mueller, or impede his investigation in any way, it would be a clear attempt to obstruct justice and undermine the rule of law. Rosenstein then would determine whether to allow Mueller to proceed or to assign the matter to another US attorney or another part of the Justice Department.
