Phil Mickelson Whiffed On A Shot

Phil Mickelson Whiffed On A Shot

Lefty came into Augusta with a shade of momentum after winning his first tournament in almost five years when defeating Justin Thomas in a playoff to claim World Golfing Championship in Mexico, in March, but a 79 in round 2 all but killed his chances of claiming a fourth green jacket this weekend. There have been flashes of vintage Phil in there but the three-time Masters victor has not been able to string together scores worthy of challenging the leaderboard. And not only does he attempt one of the toughest shots in golf, he executes it to perfection.

The truth is that while he managed to beat all three old-timers in his first Masters appearance since 2015, shooting 69 to finish on one-over par, time is clearly running out.

Still, there were also reminders of his brilliance.

"So I was just a little bit off and I'll take a week or two off and I'll regroup and get back it". This remarkable second shot with a driver from the fairway of the par five 8th set up an eagle opportunity, and was quickly followed by an excellent birdie on the next hole, this time reaching the back of the green from the famed pinestraw. "It's the best event in all of golf and the opportunity to play it was something I had missed for a few years".

Tony Cottee: 'West Ham United were poor against Chelsea'
Thibaut Courtois has made a welcome return to the Chelsea side for a Premier League derby date with London rivals West Ham. It was his eighth goal of the season for West Ham, and second equalizer as a substitute.

"I've been very consistent this year, especially off the tee".

"I putted awfully and still shot 69", Woods said.

Making up the numbers is uncharted territory and Mickelson's post-round comments were tinged with sadness.

Professional golfers, they're just like us. Now he sets his sights on the U.S. Open in June at Shinnecock Hills, where he will have another chance to complete the career grand slam. I'm hitting some good ones, but hitting a lot of really bad ones'.
