Winter Storm Watch issued for potential ice storm this weekend

A potent spring storm is raking the Plains and Midwest.

For Sioux City, and the rest of central, southern, and eastern Siouxland, we've been put into a Winter Storm Watch from Friday night into Saturday evening as the National Weather Service waits to decide if these areas will reach blizzard criteria and whether or not we'll eventually also see a Blizzard Warning.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for those areas from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning with snow accumulating 6 to 12 inches with isolated higher amounts possible.

They say significant ice build is possible tomorrow and unsafe winter driving conditions are likely as untreated roads will become snow covered and slippery.

Travelers scheduled to fly to or from impacted destinations between April 13-15 are eligible to have their change fees waived and will be able to book a new flight through April 18. Ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch are possible.

Heavy precipitation is expected to occur in a couple batches between Friday night and Sunday that will fall across much of MI as a wintry mix of snow, ice pellets, or rain freezing on contact with trees and power lines.

Four Palestinians dead in Gaza explosion
The health ministry said that at least 968 people, including 16 medics and reporters, were wounded by gunfire and tear gas Friday. The action is due to continue until May 15, when the Palestinians mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment.

St. Lawrence County: snow during the day Saturday, snow Saturday night.

The ice build-up may be sufficient to cause some damage to trees and power lines, especially given the strong winds.

Rain ahead of a slow-moving system is expected to change to snow or ice pellets tonight. Periods of snow, freezing rain, sleet, and strong gusty winds are expected.

Expect the storm to keep pushing across the area on Sunday, with still a variety of precipitation types possible, depending on our temperature evolution.

Most of the area encompassing Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, southern and western NY, and Appalachia will see rain.
