Officials warn of severe thunderstorms Sunday night

Snow, wind, freezing rain and icy conditions are forecast for our region through Sunday. Today - Sunday - Fredericksburg is starting out with patchy sunshine but this afternoon showers and even thunderstorms will rule the roost. Around 400 flights were canceled at Minneapolis-St. Friday night will be mostly clear with lows in the lower 50s. The Yankees and Tigers were rained out Saturday in Detroit. The system will clip the southern half of our area.

"We had a wonderful two days and today [Sunday] not so much", said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery.

The storm is expected to persist through Sunday in Minnesota, Wisconsin and MI before moving into NY state and New England.

Heavy showers or longer spells of rain will affect many areas tonight, heaviest in west Munster, Connacht and Ulster.

Lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C degrees with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.

The National Weather Service predicts a fairly dry week, but conditions may change by the weekend.

The health ministry said that at least 968 people, including 16 medics and reporters, were wounded by gunfire and tear gas Friday. The action is due to continue until May 15, when the Palestinians mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment.

Sunday night's rain will continue into Monday when the winds will be southeast at 24 miles per hour though the highs will be warmer - about 56 - and the lows about 40.

A Red Flag Warning Remains in effect until 9:00 PM CDT for Bailey, Briscoe, Castro, Childress, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hall, Hockley, Kent, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Parmer, Stonewall and Swisher County.

No travel was advised in Sioux Falls, where police said the blowing snow made it hard to see anything.

Stillhouse Hollow Lake's water level is 4 feet below normal elevation, and Belton Lake is about 2 feet below normal, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website. It will take most of the day to get the wind to finally subside as well.

Two storm-related deaths occurred early Saturday. In Wisconsin, a woman was killed when she lost control of the minivan she was driving on a slippery highway and struck an oncoming SUV near Lewiston. He died at the scene. The system has also caused at least nine other tornadoes.

Winds could bring downed trees and power lines, the release states. Strong winds aloft translating to the surface in downdrafts will bring the potential of damaging winds - hard to say if this will be sporadic or fairly widespread.
