'US may impose sanctions on European firms working with Iran'

"Iran will not renegotiate what was agreed years ago and has been implemented", Zarif said.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday", Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said withdrawing from the 2015 accord wasn't aimed at Europeans, but he didn't rule out the US imposing sanctions on entities that continue to do business with Iran, even as efforts continue to strike a new deal.

"The Europeans have between 45 and 60 days to give the necessary guarantees to safeguard Iranian interests and compensate the damages caused by the U.S. pullout", Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said as quoted by AFP agency on Sunday. However, he added, "maybe we shouldn't be entirely surprised, but that doesn't stop me from expressing my extreme disappointment and regret with where we now are".

The trip follows US President Donald Trump's Tuesday announcement that Washington would pull out of the 2015 accord, which drew criticism from China, Russia and European powers. It was signed in 2015.

Bolton, asked whether the United States might impose sanctions on European companies that continue to do business with Iran, told CNN: "It's possible".

Tehran has warned it is prepared to resume "industrial-scale" uranium enrichment "without any restrictions" unless Europe can provide solid guarantees that it can maintain the economic benefits it gained from the nuclear agreement despite Washington re-imposing sanctions.

"The Prime Minister raised the potential impact of U.S. sanctions on those firms which are now conducting business in Iran".

Mr Zarif is likely to seek assurances on European investments and the fate of a troubled 100-aircraft Airbus order following the U.S. decision to reinstate sanctions on the Islamic Republic, said analysts.

"Remember how badly Iran was behaving with the Iran deal in place", he said.

Sharif's Mumbai attack remark
The PTI chief before putting his demands said Nawaz's statements helped India considerably. Instructions should be given to register a treason case against him", it said.

"In the years since the deal was reached, Iran's military budget has grown by nearly 40 percent, while its economy is doing very badly", Trump said during the speech.

"So there will be a wind-down period of those sanctions but we're going to be pressing ahead with the President's goal of having a new deal".

The European side wants to discuss issues, including Iran's ballistic missile development and its growing influence on Syria and other countries in the region. Trump called the deal unfair and doubted that it would limit the nuclear ambitions of Tehran. "It didn't bring calm, it didn't bring peace, and it never will".

Serious concerns raised about Iran falling back on weapon's programme.

In response to Trump's assertions, O'Sullivan countered one of the key "myths" about the deal.

She added: "Britain, France and Germany were of the opinion that the agreement against Iran's nuclear armament is an agreement that certainly has weaknesses, but an agreement we should stand by".

He said that "Iran could change its mind, as the United States has changed its mind, but then it would be in breach of the agreement".

In the other areas, US and European diplomats have some shared views on how to approach Iran, which could be carried over if there were a new agreement.

Mr le Drian described the preservation of the JCPOA as "the only way to fight against the risk of proliferation".
