Vermont to pay up to $10K to new residents who work remotely

On Wednesday, Vermont passed a law that will pay people $10,000 to move to Vermont and work remotely for an out-of-state employer.

If you've ever dreamed about moving to a small town and getting paid to do so it, looks like the State of Vermont may help your dream come true.

The money received can be used for qualified expense that include relocating costs, needed computer equipment as well as software, co-working memberships and internet access.

The state is working out some details of how the program will run, Goldstein said.

The program is part of the state government's efforts to boost its commercial industries and mitigate the aging population.

Vermont is calling remote workers with a deal for them.

The remote worker incentive program will launch with a $500,000 appropriation from the Legislature, and the total payouts will be capped each year.

To be eligible, people must become full-time residents of Vermont after January 1, 2019.

It's been proven time and again: People who work from home report higher satisfaction, better health, and they also do their jobs more efficiently.

The bill, signed by Vermont governor Phil Scott, has budgeted grants for almost 100 new remote workers in the first three years of the program, and 20 additional workers per year for every year after. Well, thanks to state officials, you've officially got 10,000 more reasons to make the move. Current residents of the Green Mountain State are not eligible. The initiative, announced in March, aims to convert tourists into full-time residents. The program will connect visitors with local employers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and potential neighbors, CNBC said. In 2019, grants will not exceed $125,000; that increases to $250,000 in 2020, then drops to $125,000 in 2021 and will not be more than $100,000 every year after that.
