Smith increases US Women's Open lead

Sarah Jane Smith extended her lead at the U.S. Women's Open to four strokes after a second straight 5-under 67 Friday at Shoal Creek.

The 22-year-old from Thailand carried a four-stroke lead into the final round, but needed a play-off to overcome Kim Hyo-joo.

Jutanugarn started the third round behind Smith, but quickly gained ground on the Australian, making two birdies on her first three holes. Backtracking to the 14th hole, Jutanugarn hit into the bunker while Kim hit solidly onto the green; Kim missed her putt by inches, though, and the pair tied again to move to the 18th hole.

"I'm really honored to join the list of winners before me", said Jutanugarn, who adds her name to Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb, Se Ri Pak and Inbee Park as the only ones to win both the U.S. Women's Open and the Ricoh Women's British Open.

The top two finished four shots clear of Solheim Cup star Carlota Ciganda, whose five-birdie 69 ensured her best finish in a major, and there was another four-shot gap to last year's KPMG Women's PGA champion Danielle Kang. Thursday it was her second nine, Friday her first nine. Kim In-kyung trails them at No. 7. "I want to be No 1 to inspire all the kids in Thailand", said Ariya, who earned US$900,000 from the win to take her career earnings past the $6 million mark.

"It's weird, because it's playing longer because it's so soft, but it's hot so the irons are going really far", said Oh, who said she was also constantly on the lookout for mud that might affect the flight of her ball. "I don't worry about the outcome".

Tesla released the first teaser image of the Model Y at the company's 2017 Annual Shareholder Meeting in June a year ago . In an earlier letter , the company said Model 3 net reservations surpassed 450,000 at the end of the first quarter.

South Korea's Hyo-Joo Kim was in third after shooting 68 and was six shots back from Smith.

"I started off quite a few strokes behind the leader, so I didn't really think that I was going to come through", Kim said.

In all four playoff holes, her first and second shots missed the fairways and even found the bunkers but Ariya, known to her fans as May, showed she had learned from her troubled past and somehow managed to keep her cool.

Thai Wichanee Meechai, a 25-year-old in her second LPGA season, was part of the celebration as well. I felt like it was good change at the time, but turns out it wasn't.

Round two was finished early on day three, with the cut-line unchanged and Ko sneaking into the back half of the major tournament. I was sort of holing a lot of putts. "So I feel like it's a different nerves but they were there". "He's like, 'Come on, do you want to win?' I'm like, 'Yes.' He said, 'Okay".

Jutanugarn looms as arguably the biggest threat to Smith's 36 hole lead, the Thai golfer and former World Number One still with 10 holes to play and the chance in early morning conditions on day three when returning to finish round two to close in on Smith's lead.
