Amazon announces Fire TV Cube with 4K playback and built-in microphones

What differentiates the Fire TV Cube from its predecessors-aside from its unique cube shape-is that it's truly a hybrid device. "And, it's just the beginning". It packs in all the great streaming functionality you'd get from the Fire TV, plus it supports hands-free Alexa like the Echo Dot.

The Amazon Fire TV Cube offers the array of standard features existing Fire TV owners have come to know, including compatibility with Alexa.

The commands work with live TV services, as well as streaming apps like Hulu or PlayStation Vue or HBO, Showtime and Starz.

Fire TV Cube comes with an array of eight microphones - one more than the second-generation Echo speaker released past year - giving the device the ability to hear commands spoken from across a room.

There is an IR extender cable, and Ethernet adapter, PSU, voice remote, and AA batteries in the box alongside your Fire TV Cube. It costs $119.99, with pre-orders starting today, but Prime members can pre-order it for a discounted price of $89.99 until tomorrow. An Xbox One can turn on your TV when you use a controller to turn on the console itself, or a Blu-ray player can adjust a TV's volume. For a limited time, Amazon is bundling it with the Amazon Cloud Cam, the company's cloud-connected security system, for $199, and is extending $10 in Prime Video credit to customers who order by July 1. You can switch channels by saying, "Alexa, switch to channel 15", or, "Alexa, switch to ESPN".

Liverpool closing in on Nabil Fekir deal with Lyon
Liverpool are looking to clinch the £60 million (€68m/$80m) signing of Nabil Fekir before he heads off to the World Cup with France.

Experience true-to-life picture quality and sound with access to vivid 4K Ultra HD up to 60 fps, HDR, and the audio clarity of Dolby Atmos. You'll find advanced beam forming technology to help suppress noise and enable the device to zero in on your voice even with "competing speech" in the background.

Apart from this, Amazon's Fire TV Cube is also capable of its compatibility extension for cable companies like the DISH, Comcast, and DirecTV.

The Fire TV Cube will be an interesting test for full-blown streaming boxes, which have fallen out of favor as most consumers opt for cheaper streaming dongles that can fit behind a television. While it makes little sense to put this specific device all throughout the house, it can replace a smart speaker in any room with a TV. You can even search for TV and movies by director or actor.

Enjoy tens of thousands of channels, apps, and Alexa skills.

The Cube is equipped with IR blasters on its glass-covered four sides, meaning that it can send commands to most devices present in an average TV setup.
