Robbie Williams set for World Cup opening ceremony

President Donald Trump is promising soccer's global governing body that foreign teams, officials and fans will be able to travel to the U.S. for the 2026 World Cup if North America wins the bid to host the tournament.

The former Take That frontman, best known for the hits Angels and RockDJ, will perform a special duet with Russian soprano Aida Garifullina before the host nation's opening match with Saudi Arabia in Group A.

Federation Internationale de Football Association did not comment on whether the song would form part of Williams' performance, saying the set list would be kept as a "surprise".

The 2018 World Cup kicks off on Thursday as host Russian Federation takes on Saudi Arabia.

The singer will be joined by Russian soprano Aida Garifullina, and - presumably not on vocals - former Brazilian worldwide Ronaldo, part of the winning teams in 1994 and 2002.

Brazil's Ronaldo, two times FIFA World Cup Champion will also present in the open ceremony which will brighten up the event.

"I'm so happy and excited to be going back to Russian Federation for such a unique performance".

"I've done a lot in my career, and opening the FIFA World Cup to 80,000 football fans in the stadium and many millions all over the world is a boyhood dream".

"The World Cup provides a reliable boost to the global ad market every four years, and will be responsible for 10 percent of all the growth in ad dollars this year", said Jonathan Barnard, Zenith's head of forecasting and director of global intelligence.

"Please understand that the track list for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Fifa World Cup has been agreed between the artists, Fifa, and the local organising committee, who would like to keep this as a surprise for the public until the show". India hasn't played in FIFA World Cup but we have potential. "Ahead of a competition as important as the World Cup, the entire focus should be on it. Rumors shouldn't matter".

ITV have broadcast rights to the first match of the tournament and the show beforehand.
