Apple to release noise-cancelling AirPods, over-ear headphones

Bloomberg reports that the water-resistance levels won't be high enough to allow you to go swimming with them, but will offer adequate protection against rain or sweat. It won't enable users to swim with the next-generation AirPods.

Along with the new headphones, Apple is also reportedly working on a new HomePod model for next year, although there are no details yet about what that will entail or how it will be different from the current model. These are supposed to cost more than the current models that cost $159 and could be coming in 2019. It may also include a health sensor like a heartbeat monitor, to make them more useful for joggers. The "AirPower" charging mat will be capable of powering up the iPhone X, Apple Watch, and the next-gen AirPods as well as select future Apple devices. The original version of the earbuds faced a delay after it first debuted in 2016. Apple plans to remedy this issue by shaking up its supply chain. However, production hasn't started, and design and technology partnerships for the product haven't been finalized.

Apple is also said to be in the process of developing a new version of its HomePod smart speaker. We don't know much about these, but Bloomberg's sources say that they'll be Apple-branded.

Donald Trump attacks Harley-Davidson for moving production away from the US
Executives in Harley-Davidson were among the first to visit the White House in February 2017 shortly after Trump took office. That increases the costs for companies to bring the parts they need into the United States to complete their products.

With the AirPods, Apple has created a bold new kind of wireless headphone, removing the annoyances of struggling to pair and remembering to turn them off to avoid battery drain.

Instead of being branded Beats the new headphones will feature Apple branding and be a higher-end alternative to the company's Beats line.

Apple was reported earlier this year to be planning on expanding its audio lineup with over-ear headphones that were supposedly slated for launch by the end of 2018. Unfortunately, the device has been delayed due to development challenges. What direction Apple will take with the HomePod 2 is yet to be determined. A spokesperson for Apple declined to comment on the leaked information. Bloomberg's report offers up nearly no information, saying only that a refresh is in the works and that Apple may move away from Inventec for production.
