Woman declared dead after horror auto crash found ALIVE in morgue fridge

Paramedics in the gold-mining town of Carletonville in South Africa are insisting they did everything in their power to determine whether a vehicle crash victim could be saved before declaring her dead.

Days later, a morgue worker who was loading the bodies into the fridges came to the chilling realization that the woman who was earlier pronounced "dead" was alive and breathing.

The South African woman had been certified dead by paramedics at the scene in the Gauteng province, south-west of Johannesburg on 24 June.

An official confirmed to the BBC the woman is now being treated in a hospital east of Johannesburg after being referred by forensics officers.

"We followed our procedures - we've got no idea how it happened", Ambulance service manager Gerrit Bradnick told a Sowetan newspaper.

'The crew is absolutely devastated - we're not in the business of declaring living people dead, we're in the business of keeping people alive'.

Russian Federation stun Spain on penalties to reach World Cup quarter-finals
A defensive error let Russian Federation level in the 41st, after Gerard Pique's raised arm blocked a header by Artyom Dzyuba. It was a shocking elimination for Spain , joining former champions Germany and Argentina.

Mr Bradnick claimed the woman from Gauteng had "showed no signs of life" after the traffic accident she was involved in.

The woman's family has been contacted, he said, but due to patient confidentiality neither the victim nor her family will grant interviews.

Netwerk24 reported that she was still in critical condition in a Gauteng government hospital and that her family had been informed.

An investigation is being carried out, with the shocked family of the un-named woman demanding answers.

It is also not the first time this has happened in South Africa.

In 2016, medics declared a road accident victim in KwaZulu Natal dead. Seven years ago, a 50-year-old man woke up screaming in an Eastern Cape morgue.
