Thailand cave: Elon Musk has weird solution to save trapped boys

The Boring Company is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company, while SpaceX is Musk's aerospace venture.

Initial elation at finding 12 boys and their soccer coach in a Thai cave has since turned to concern at not being able to immediately extract them, and sadness after a diver bringing supplies died during his exit.

Authorities in Thailand have been in a race against heavy rains as they try to find a way to extract the group trapped for almost two weeks in the Tham Luang cave complex in northern Thailand, a saga that has transfixed a nation.

A spokesman for The Boring Company, which Musk founded in 2016 said: 'We are speaking with the Thai government to see how we can help, and we are sending SpaceX/Boring Company people from the U.S. to Thailand today to offer support on the ground.

Musk acknowledged there are many complexities to the rescue mission, he has begun brainstorming some ideas that involve inserting a one-metre nylon tube through the cave network and inflating it with air like a "bouncy castle". He also tweeted suggestions like inflatable tubes and pods to create an air tunnel passageway underwater.

De Bruyne's deployment could be critical for Belgium
"I think it's the first time that I've seen Kevin growing into a very important player of this group on the pitch in the most important moments", Martinez said.

It all started with a plea from a random Twitter user.

Musk commented that he believes the first bit of water could probably be pumped out, while engineers would use air pumps, tubes and battery packs for the second and third rounds of water. That's why rescuers need to pump water out of the cave tunnels in Chiang Rai. The team went on a short hike but a monsoon trapped them with few options for getting out. Time is of the essence since more flooding rains are expected over the weekend, and oxygen in the caves may be running low.

It is not clear whether Musk's solution will be seriously considered or whether it would work better than the methods already being explored by rescuers. Mr Musk has also been engaged in a Twitter spat over media coverage of Tesla, in particular with CNBC and Business Insider.

Musk later said The Boring Company is proficient at digging holes and has radar technology with underground detection capabilities.
